Commercial Manager - Global Legal Powerhouse
This is an excellent opportunity within a global legal powerhouse who are changing the way they look at business development. The firm is looking for a Commercial Manager to work within their BD team, focusing on the Financial Institutions Group, in a highly visible role which would give the successful applicant the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility rapidly.
The role holder will enjoy a wider business remit than would be expected in a standard BD role with a priority focus of providing commercial advice on how the firm optimally manages client relationships and implementing and evolving the commercial management of the most important Financial Institutions clients and for the sector as a whole. The Commercial Manager will also be responsible for optimising the management of financial and procurement relationships with key clients and will be expected to coach Business Development Managers across the MBD function on how to apply techniques to the relationships they manage.
The Financial Institutions Group is the largest of the firm's eight sector groups and comprises many of the firm's largest and most complex client relationships. These clients are some of the most advanced in structuring and managing commercial terms, with experienced procurement functions and pressure to reduce costs and improve efficiencies. The Commercial Manager will needs to find the most effective means of managing the commercial relationship with these key clients, in order to give each client the best possible service, whilst meeting the firm's own internal financial performance needs. It will be a difficult balance to strike, combining the technical skill to review the commercials with the ability to devise a new way of managing relationships and persuading people to adopt what is proposed.
The ideal candidate will be bright graduate with extensive previous experience gained in a legal or professional services firm of negotiating or structuring complex commercial arrangements. It is essential that the Commercial Manager has both a strong understanding of the commercial drivers of client relationships and is at ease in conversations with clients on the commercial aspects of a relationship.
